Business context

Revenue reporting flattered stores that were busy but unprofitable. A VP deciding where to intervene needs margin and target performance next to volume, not instead of it.

Approach

  1. 01

Built five calculated fields: margin, days to ship, a parameter-driven target, performance against that target, and a profit status flag.

  2. 02

Added state filters so a regional manager could examine their own footprint rather than a national figure.

  3. 03

Flagged high-sales, low-profit states for follow-up instead of ranking on revenue alone.

Results and implications

The view separates stores that earn from stores that merely move volume, which changes where a sales leader spends attention and where pricing gets reviewed.
